The signal transmission device 1 is composed of a transmission module 2 which converts an image electric signal input from a first host computer 4A to an image optical signal and transmits it through an optical fiber 10, and a reception module 3 which receives the image optical signal transmitted from the transmission module 2 and outputs it to an image display apparatus 5 by converting the received image optical signal to an image electric signal. The reception module 3 includes a power mode control part 38 to control power supplied to at least one of the transmission module 2 and the reception module 3, based on the operating state signal indicating the operating state of the image display apparatus 5.
