To keep down the water level of condensed water stayed in a shell in a silencer of an internal combustion engine in which the opening of an outlet pipe in the upstream side is arranged in the upper side in comparison with a downstream part.
An inlet pipe 5 for introducing exhaust gas to a first chamber 3 is provided in the end plate 22 of the shell 2. An outlet pipe 6 for leading out the gas flowed in a second chamber 4 from the first chamber 3 is provided in the end plate 23 of the shell 2. The outlet pipe 6 consists of a downstream part 61 extending horizontally, and an upstream part 63 extending upwards through a bend part 62 bending almost at a right angle to the downstream part 61. A drainage pipe 7 extending downwards is provided in the lower part of the end part of the downstream part 61 positioned in the chamber 4. The upper end inside of the pipe 7 is communicated with the inside of the downstream part 61, and the lower end is opened to the chamber 4 through a water guide hole 71a formed at the bottom 71.
