PURPOSE: To obtain the silver halide photographic emulsion small in fog and good in storage stability and high in sensitivity.
CONSTITUTION: The silver halide emulsion is subjected to reduction sensitization at the time of forming silver halide grains and prepared by using a metal complex represented by the formula: M-L or a multivalent iodine compound represented by the formula: R1-(Z)n, and in the formulae, M is a metal atom, such as Co, V, Cu, Sn, Mn, Mo, Ni, Cr, W, or Ti; L is a combination of groups comprising ligands and anions and cations necessary to form the complex, and it is necessary to contain the ligands; R1 is an aromatic ring or hetero ring; (n) is 1 or 2; Z is -IO, -IO2, -IX2, or -I+-R2Y; X is a Cl atom or an acyloxy group; R2 is an aromatic ring; and Y is an anion.
