PURPOSE: To obtain the element which provides a silver image having good tones and high sharpness by using as a component of the element, a specific azole compound in a concn. effective in improving tones of the silver image.
CONSTITUTION: This element consisting of a substrate that supports an emulsion layer contg. radiation-sensitive silver bromide or silver iodide fine grains having a <0.3μm average equivalent circle diameter, contains an azole compound represented by the formula in a concn. effective in improving the tones of a developed silver image. In the formula: Z is -N= or -C(R5)=(wherein R' is hydrogen, -NH2, an aliphatic group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or an aromatic group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms); R4 is hydrogen, an aliphatic group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or an aromatic group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein R4 and R5 are joined together to form a five-membered or six-membered heteroclic nucleus contg. 1 to 3 nitrogen atoms as members of the heterocycle; L is a divalent aliphatic linking group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms; T is an aliphatic terminal group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; (m) is 0 or 1; (n) is an integer of 1 to 4; and (p) is an integer of 2 to 4.
