PURPOSE: To produce an electrical contact material having excellent heat resistance and welding resistance by incorporating specific amt. of iron oxide into the silver-metallic conjugate oxide contact material contg. silver and the oxide of metallic elements to be converted to solid solution.

CONSTITUTION: 0.1W5wt.% iron oxide is incorporated into the silver based conjugated material contg. silver and the oxide of metallic elements to be converted into solid solution (one or plural kinds among Cd, In, Sn, Zn, Sb, Cu, Bi, Pb and Mn) in the limit of solid solution to produce the sintered contact material. The effect on hardening and high density of the sintered body is attained by furthermore incorporating one or plural kinds among 0.05W5wt.% Co, Ni, Mo and W into said material at need. By this method, the titled material suitable as a contact for an opening and closing equipment at the time of the application of a large current is obtd.
