Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely remove silver skin by Coulomb force without oxidizing coffee beans.SOLUTION: A silver skin removal device for coffee beans is provided that includes: electrode plates 17, 18 which locate above a transportation path for coffee beans containing silver skin; a ground electrode plate 11 which contacts with the transportation path below the transportation path and is disposed opposite the electrode plates 17, 18; and an endless insulation band 14 which moves crossing a direction of transportation of coffee beans and is provided between one of the electrode plates 17, 18 and the transportation path. Silver skin is adhered to the insulation band 14 by Coulomb force generated between an electric field formed between one of the electrode plates 17, 18 and the ground electrode plate 11. The silver skin removal device further includes: a silver skin housing container 20 that houses silver skin dropped under its own weight at a position which the endless insulation band 14 reaches resulting from its movement and where the endless insulation band 14 is away from one of the electrode plates 17, 18; a static eliminator 22 that eliminates static electricity from the insulation band 14 at a position downstream of a position away from one of the electrode plates 17, 18, in the movement direction; and removal means 23 that removes silver skin from the insulation band 14 further downstream of the static eliminator 22 by a physical force.
