Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical fiber superior in the lateral pressure characteristics by stabilizing the coat diameter of the bare wire of the optical fiber. SOLUTION: In the manufacture of an optical fiber 9, at least two or more types of cooling gases having a different heat transfer coefficient are introduced to a cooling device 24 for cooling the optical fiber bare wire 3, the flow rate is made variable of at least one or more types among these cooling gases, with such variable flow rate adjusted by a flow rate adjusting device 22, and the temperature of the incoming line is controlled of the optical fiber bare wire 3 into a resin coating device 5.
