Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an internal sizing agent effective in papermaking within a neutral to a weak alkaline regions by including a specific polyester reactional product as a sizing agent component.
CONSTITUTION: The objective sizing agent composition for papermaking is obtained by including a polyester reactional product of the formula (R1 and R2 are rosin residue or α,β-unsaturated polyvalent carboxylic acid adduct rosin residue; at least either thereof is α,β-unsaturated polyvalent carboxylic acid adduct rosin residue; R2 and R4 are polyhydric alcoholic residue; R3 is tri- or polyvalent carboxylic acid residue; x and z are integers of 1-3; y is 0, 1 or 2; m and n are 1 or 2). Good sizing properties are amnifested even at pH ≥7.5 which is papermaking conditions containing much calcium.
