PURPOSE: To obtain a sizing agent having few end breakages during weaving, improving efficiency of weaving efficiency, comprising a PVA-based polymer prepared by saponifying a polymer selected from a polymer of vinyl pivalent and a polymer of vinyl pivalate and vinyl acetate into a specific degree of saponification.
CONSTITUTION: One or more polymers selected from a polymer of vinyl pivalent and a polymer of vinyl pivalent (mol composition of vinyl pivalate is ≥0.5mol%, especially ≥10mol%) are saponified to give a sizing agent for fiber sizing consisting essentially of a PVA-based polymer having ≥50mol%, preferably ≥70mol%. When fibers are sized with the sizing agent, end breakage in weaving is reduced and weaving efficiency is extremely improved.
