Abstract:
1. A process for sizing paper or cardboard by adding, in any order or simultaneously, to an aqueous dispersion of the fibres, which dispersion may also contain fillers, at least (A) one anionic hydrophobic sizing agent and (B) one polymeric cationic retention aid, in which process the sizing agent (A) is obtainable from (a) ketene dimers whose hydrophobic substituents have at least 5 carbon atoms, said substituents containing only carbon and hydrogen, and (b) diamines or oligoamines having 2 to 6 nitrogen atoms and 2 to 36 carbon atoms.
