Abstract:

PURPOSE: To decrease sufficiently a skew without generation of new track offset and exertion of new force to a magnetic tape edge by reading a signal for detecting skew, correcting an objective value of a tilt angle and adjusting the tilt angle so as to decrease the difference between the objective value of the corrected tilt angle and the result of detection.

CONSTITUTION: A skew detecting circuit 9 detects the magnitude and direction of the skew when a rotary head 8 scans an information track 13. A tilt angle objective value of a rotary shaft of a rotary head mechanism 7 is given from a tilt angle objective value generating circuit 15 to a tilt angle comparator circuit 16. The tilt angle comparison circuit 16 compares a given tilt angle objective value with the tilt angle of a spindle servo mechanism 10 detected by a tilt angle detector 14 and when there is any difference in two angles, a current having the same amplitude but opposite polarity as the difference is given from a spindle servo mechanism drive signal generating circuit 11 to the spindle servo mechanism 10 via an output line 12. As a result, the spindle servo mechanism 10 is activated and the rotary shaft of the rotary head mechanism 7 is tilted so as to be an angle equal to the given tilt angle objective value.
