To provide a furnace bottom electrode of a direct current electric furnace having a long lifetime by preventing floating and dissipation of a sleeve brick caused by a selective erosion of a joint portion of the sleeve brick and an infiltration of molten electrode into the joint portion.
In a sleeve brick 11 provided around a bar-like electrode 5 made of metal, sleeve brick joints 12 are formed in a step-like manner in a direction from the bar-like electrode 5 to monolithic refractories 10 so that a selective erosion of the sleeve brick joints 12 and a infiltration of molten electrode into the sleeve brick joints 12 can be reduced. Accordingly, an increase of floating force which the sleeve brick 11 receives from molten can be restricted and and adhering strength of the sleeve brick 11 can be maintained so that floating and dissipation of the sleeve brick 11 can be prevented and the lifetime of the sleeve brick 11 can be prolonged thus obtaining a furnace bottom electrode having a long lifetime.
