To prevent a sliding door from being damaged even if an impact force is applied thereto in the thickness direction.
In the sliding door device 1, the upper side of a sliding door body 3 is so suspended as to be run in the opening and closing direction 18, and the lower side of the sliding door body 3 is so guided as to be slid in the opening and closing direction 18. A groove-like recess 7 is formed in the lower end surface 5 of the sliding door body in the opening and closing direction 18. A bar-like member 22 formed of a hard material and having a groove 24 extending in the longitudinal direction is so fitted into the recess 7 that the groove 24 is opened downward. The sliding door body 3 comprises two longitudinal plate-like panel parts 9a, 9a not allowing light to pass therethrough and a longitudinal plate-like synthetic resin plate part 13 installed between the panel parts 9a, 9a and allowing light to pass therethrough. The lower end of the synthetic resin plate part 13 is retreated from the lower end surface of the panel parts 9a, 9b upward. The bar-like member 22 is so installed as to straddle between the panel parts 9a, 9b. The lower end 15 of the synthetic resin plate part is abutted on the upper end 25 of the bar-like member.
