PURPOSE: To provide the sliding member which is light in weight, has high friction wear characteristics and is suitable for high speed rotation by impregnating a molten Al-based alloy into an aluminum borate whisker molding in a pressurized state and solidifying the molten alloy.
CONSTITUTION: The melt of the Al-based alloy is impregnated in the pressurized state with the aluminum borate whisker molding of ≥20% volumetric ratio and is solidified. An Al-Si alloy, etc., are used as the Al-based alloy. The setting of the coefft. of thermal expansion equiv. to the coefft. of thermal expansion of iron is possible if the Al-based alloy of the low coefft. of thermal expansion and the above-mentioned whiskers are combined. The problem of the generation of a clearance with other constituting parts is solved.
