To prevent accident such that a worker is buried under the fallen work by providing a sling type lifting device having the structure which can avoid the contact with the work by automatic lifting of a lifting tool when the lifting tool is removed from the work.
The lifting tool 5 is connected to the tip of the sling 1 in the sling type lifting device. When the work load is applied on the lifting tool which can lift up its own weight, an elastic member 6 having elastic force in the range which can not lift them, is used, and the elastic member is connected to the two points apart by the distance (L2) of not less than the length (L1) at the time of contraction of the elastic member in the intermediate part of the sling. When lifting the work, the elastic member extends until the distance of approximately the same as the distance (L2) between the connecting points, and the sling becomes in a straight line. However, when the work is removed from the lifting tool, the elastic member contracts and the lifting tool automatically lifts by the distance (L3=L2-L1).
