PURPOSE: To facilitate safe embarking and disembarking, and also safe operation on the foredeck by installing the foredeck in front of the cabin at a higher level than the passage deck.

CONSTITUTION: In immediate front of the front wall 16 of the cabin a foredeck 3 extends from side to side of the ship, and further ahead of the foredeck 3, a stem deck 4 is provided at the same level with the upper face of the bulwark 21. The foredeck 3 is connected to the passage deck 2 and to the stem deck 4 by means of vertical walls, 23 and 34, respectively. By installing the foredeck 3 and the stem deck 4 in steps like a stairway, they offer easy stepping for persons during their embarkation and disembarkation. A flare, formed to the bulwark 21 by virtue of high-level installation of the foredeck 3, has allowed the foredeck 3 to extend widely from side to side of the ship, preparing easy- to-work spaces for crew who can now approach the side of the ship to do work with a comfortable posture.
