Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the smelting reduction method for Ni ore which executes stable operation without spitting and slopping occurring in a bottom blowing gas by overcoming the problem of wear of furnace body bricks.
CONSTITUTION: This smelting reduction method for the Ni ore with a converter smelting furnace 10 having a top blowing oxygen lance 21 and bottom blowing 24 and/or side blowing tuyeres consists of a series of smelting reduction stages including (1) a stage for charging the Ni ore together with carbonaceous materials into the smelting furnace 10, (2) a stage for blowing oxygen from the top blowing oxygen lance into the smelting furnace 10 and (3) a stage for blowing a stirring gas, such as N2 or CO, from the bottom blowing 24 and/or side blowing tuyeres into the smelting furnace 10 to stir the materials and consists in maintaining the secondary combustion ratio expressed by formula (H2O+CO2)/(H2+H2O+CO+CO2) to <0.3. The method also consists in adjusting the temp. of slag t ≤1580°C, maintaining the T.Fe in slag at ≤110wt.% and controlling the flow rate of the stirring gas from the bottom blowing and/or side blowing tuyeres to 0.1 to 1.0Nm3/min ton.
