Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a solid adhesive compsn. which is excellent in uniformity in application and has such excellent adhesive properties that it can adhere even to thick paper, coated paper, etc., by compounding water, an org. solvent, a vinylpyrrolidone-acrylic acid copolymer as the adhesive component, and a gelling agent.
CONSTITUTION: This adhesive compsn. comprises water, an org. solvent, vinylpyrrolidone-acrylic acid copolymer as the adhesive component, and a gelling agent. The copolymer has a wt. ratio of vinylpyrrolidone units to acrylic acid units of (25/75)-(75/25); the ratio higher than 75/25 does not improve the adhesive properties and that lower than 25/75 does not give uniformity in application nor satisfactory moldability. The mol.wt. of the copolymer is pref. 40,000-250,000; the mol.wt. lower than 40,000 gives a solid adhesive with inadequate strengths and that higher than 250,000 does not give uniformity in application.
