Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the solid contact medium which has the high transmission efficiency of ultrasonic waves and the shape adaptability to the shape of a living body and allows easy handling by incorporating a matrix polymer formed by polymn. of a polymerizable vinyl compd., carrageenin and solvent into this medium.

CONSTITUTION: The contact medium for the ultrasonic probe contains 3 to 40wt.% matrix polymer formed by polymn. of the polymerizable vinyl compd., 0.1 to 6wt.% carrageenin and 60 to 97wt.% solvent. The moisture in the medium decreases and the ultrasonic transmission efficiency is poor if the content of the matrix polymer is higher than the above-mentioned range. The gel having poor mechanical strength is obtd. and there is a problem in handling if the content is lower than the above- mentioned range. The gel is hard and, therefore, the moisture content decreases and the transmission efficiency of the ultrasonic waves is poor if the content of the carrageenin is higher than the above-mentioned range. The gel having poor mechanical strength is obtd. and there is a problem in handling if the content is lower than the above-mentioned range. Further, the gel having poor mechanical strength is resulted if the content of the solvent is higher than the above-mentioned range and the ultrasonic transmission efficiency is poor if the content is lower than the above-mentioned range and, therefore, such contents are undesirable.
