PURPOSE: To provide a practicable low temperature operation type solid fuel cell by using a solid electrolyte of a high ion conductivity and an air electrode composed of lanthanum cobalt oxide having excellent conductivity and catalytic activity.
CONSTITUTION: In a solid electrolyte type fuel cell comprising a fuel electrode 1, a solid electrolyte 2 and an air electrode 3, a ZrO2-Sc2O3-Al2O3 material having an ion conductivity higher than that of stabilizing zirconia (YSZ) is used as the solid electrolyte 2. Consequently, the operation of a fuel cell can be performed at as low as about 800°C. Lanthanum cobalt oxide having conductivity and catalytic activity more excellent than those of conventional La1-zSrzMnO3 or lanthanum cobalt oxide where a part of lanthanum is substituted with strontium is used as the air electrode 3. As a result, it is possible to use the fuel cell at low temperatures and improve mechanical properties at high temperatures.
