The solid polymer fuel cell has a unit cell 1 having an anode 2a and a cathode 2c supporting a solid polymer electrolyte membrane 2m between them and performing a power generation reaction with reaction gas, and separators 3, 4 between which they are interposed. A cathode reaction gas passage 5 in which at least one part is faced to a reaction region of the anode 2a and a cathode unreacted gas passage 6 through which cathode gas before being used for power generation reaction is passed are adjacently installed through a barrier 8 in the cathode separator 3, and heat exchange is performed between fluid flowing through the cathode reaction gas passage 5 and that flowing through the cathode unreacted gas passage 6.
