Abstract:
PURPOSE:To completely eliminate smear specific to a solid-state image pickup device by reading a smear component invaded in a vertical signal line connecting a 1st switch element and a 2nd switch element by means of a 3rd switch element just before the 1st switch element reads an optical signal to the vertical signal line. CONSTITUTION:A vertical switch 22 is selected through a vertical gate 24 by a vertical scanning circuit 29. The optical signal charge, however, stored in a photodiode 21 being a photoelectric conversion element is not transferred yet to a vertical signal line 26. Then a reset switch 31 is turned on through a horizontal gate 34 by a horizontal scanning circuit 30 and the smear charge stored in the vertical signal line 26 is swept out to a smear output terminal 33 through a horizontal smear sweep-out line 32. Then the vertical switch 22 is turned on through a horizontal gate 25 by the horizontal scanning circuit 30 and the photo signal charge in the photodiode 21 is transferred to the vertical signal line 26. A horizontal switch 23 is also turned on by the horizontal gate 25. The optical signal charge is read out at a photo signal output terminal 28 through the vertical signal line 26 and the horizontal signal line 27.
