PURPOSE: To combine with both areas and to improve the utility of areas by providing a first image pickup area, where the number of a vertical picture component is coincident with an efficient scanning line of a first TV system and the dimension of length and breadth is coincident with the aspect ratio of the system and a second image pickup area 1 where the number of component is coincident with the difference of the first and second image pickup areas.
CONSTITUTION: A photoelectric conversion part 1 is distributed like a matrix on an optical incident surface accumulating a signal electric load according to an amount of an optical input of a solid-state image pickup element, and the electric load is read by a transfer gate, accumulated on the conversion part 1 and converted into an electric signal subsequently by an output circuit 4. The image pickup area including the conversion pat 1 and a resister 2 and discriminated into the main and sub image pickup areas 5, 6. The number of the vertical component of the area 5 is coincident with that of the efficient scanning line of the first TV equally and the dimensional ratio of length and breadth is coincident with aspect ratio of the TV. The number of the vertical component of the area 6 is selected by the difference number of the scanning line of the first and second TV to combine with the areas 5, 6 electrically.
