To make thinning-out read while performing rolling electronic shutter operation with simple constitution and not to thin out the row of optical black pixels.

A vertical scanning circuit has a vertical shift register 14 which generates and outputs a vertical shift pulse for selecting the row of pixels 11 and a vertical driving circuit 16 which outputs a reset pulse or readout pulse to respective pixels of the selected row on the basis of the vertical shift pulse. The vertical shift register 14 has a plurality of cascaded stages of unit circuits provided correspondingly to rows of pixels 11 respectively. The vertical shift register 14 is configured to supply clock signals ϕV1 and ϕV2 supplied to unit circuits of respective stages corresponding to rows of OB pixels and clock signals ϕV3 and ϕV4 supplied to unit circuits of respective stages corresponding to rows of effective pixels independently of each other.
