To provide a unique touch feeling and to embody excellent dimensional stability and dyeability by treating a solvent-spun cellulosic fiber or its fibrous structure with an alkaline solution, then fibrillating the fiber or fibrous structure and subsequently cutting the resultant fibrils with a cellulase.
An alkaline solution such as an aqueous solution of caustic soda or liquid ammonia is applied to a solvent-spun cellulosic fiber or its fibrous structure composed of a cellulose crystalline phase consisting essentially of II type cellulose and a cellulose noncrystalline phase and having ≥53 crystallinity to swell the fiber or fibrous structure by >1.3 times based on the diameter of the fiber or fibrous structure at 25°C and RH 60%. A mechanical stress is then applied thereto to provide ≥3 rating of fibrillation degree. The resultant fiber or fibrous structure is then treated with a cellulase to cut the formed fibrils.
