To provide a sound production method for generating sound waves without generating sound waves from a plate surface of a diaphragm, and a speaker utilizing the same.
A flow path 20 has an air inlet 22 and an air outlet 24. A micro-pump 28 circulates air to the flow path 20 at prescribed pressure. A cavity 26 is formed in the middle of the flow path. A membrane 34 is arranged in the cavity 26 while supporting it by a leaf spring 44. Electrodes 32, 36 are fixedly arranged in the cavity 26 so as to face both upper and lower faces of the membrane 34. An opening 40a of the flow path 20 is formed at the central part of the electrode 32 in the cavity 26. An analog sound signal is applied to the membrane 34 while applying a positive bias voltage and a negative bias voltage to the electrodes 32, 36, respectively. The membrane 34 is vertically displaced according to the analog sound signal, thereby changing a distance of an air gap 56 between the membrane 34 and the electrode 32. Consequently, flow-path resistance is changed so as to change a discharge amount from the air outlet 24.
