A pair of spectacles for stereoscopic video appreciation 120 includes: a shutter control section 124 that controls opening and closing of each of a left eye shutter and a right eye shutter by the synchronization signal transmitted from the stereoscopic video display apparatus 110; a signal strength determination section 123 that determines a signal strength of the synchronization signal. The shutter control section 124 switches between a first open/close pattern for displaying stereoscopic video by alternatively opening and closing the left eye shutter and the right eye shutter and a second open/close pattern for displaying planar video by simultaneously opening and closing the left eye shutter and the right eye shutter according to the signal strength determined at the signal strength determination section 123.
