PURPOSE: To provide the speed controller of an elevator facilitating maintenance and inspection work by improving the structure difficult to conduct the work because of the space of the machine room of the elevator.

CONSTITUTION: A sheave part consisting of a sheave 6 rotated by a speed controller rope 8, and a cover part consisting of fly weights 9, 9a to which rotation is transmitted by a shaft 7 fixed to the sheave 6 and a switch 14 operated by the displacement of the fly weights 9, 9a are separated at a determined interval. Thus, the maintenance and inspection work to the sheave, fly weights and switch is facilitated.
