To provide a speed reducer with speed ratio switching mechanism which suppresses a running cost.
A speed reducer has a rotation transmission member connecting between a high-speed side rotation transmission part or a low-speed side rotation transmission part disposed on an input shaft side and a rotation transmission receiving part disposed on an output shaft side so as to transmit a rotative drive of the input shaft side to the output shaft side, and a speed ratio switching mechanism 20 which moves the rotation transmission member between a first position, which connects the high-speed side rotation transmission part with the rotation transmission receiving part and a second position, which connects the low-speed side rotation transmission part with the rotation transmission receiving part. A retractable click disposed on the rotation transmission member is made fittable to fitting portions corresponding to the first position or the second position of the rotation transmission receiving part. While the rotation transmission member is rotating, the click is fitted to the fitting portion and when the speed ratio switching mechanism 20 is actuated, the click is released from the fitting portion, so that the rotation transmission member is subjected to restriction of the movement in the axial direction during rotation.
