Abstract:

To provide a spherical sponge nickel catalyst having uniform particle size distribution and excellent catalytic activity.

The sponge nickel catalyst is obtained by: (a) preparing a practically spherical alloy powder (where the relative area ratio of a compound phase from which aluminum is easily eluted in an aqueous solution of alkali is ≥70%) by the rapid solidification process from a molten alloy composed essentially of nickel and aluminum; (b) holding the alloy powder at 300-800°C to perform homogenizing treatment; and (c) putting the alloy powder into an aqueous solution of alkali to elute most of the aluminum.
