To provide a spindle device with a chuck not causing distortion in a gripping object in gripping and aligning the object, and rotating the gripped object with high accuracy.
A scroll chuck 1 is provided in the shaft end of a spindle 22. The scroll chuck 1 moves a chuck claw 11 forward and backward in the radial direction by rotating operation of a chuck claw operating rotating body 12. The spindle device with the chuck is equipped with: a position detector 41 detecting the rotational angle position of the spindle 22; and a positioning control means 5a controlling a spindle drive motor 4 in a closed loop. The spindle device with the chuck is equipped with: a gripping force detection means 5b detecting the gripping force of the scroll chuck 1 from the deviation amount required by the positioning control means 5a when the chuck claw operating rotor 12 is rotated in the state where the positioning control means 5a is activated, or from a control output; and a gripping force display means 6.
