Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enable glass fibers to be spliced satisfactorily by configurating a device in such a way that a splicing chamber is provided with two air nozzles, and the direction of the nozzles, a ratio of the cross sectional area of the nozzle between two, pressure of air flow and the like are specified when two continuous glass fibers are spliced by applying air flow respectively.

CONSTITUTION: A nozzle 2 for opening of fibers is made perpendicular, and similarly a nozzle 3 for rotating fibers is made circumferential to a splicing chamber 1. In this case, if the cross sectional area of the nozzles 2 and 3 is represented by S1 and S2 respectively, a ratio between S1 and S2 must satisfy the following inequality; 0.56≤S1/S2≤4.00. Then, a movable jig 8 is elevated by an air cylinder 7, and after one end of glass fibers 4' is secured on a stationary holder 6, air flow of from 4.0W11.0kg/cm2 is applied simultaneously from both the nozzles 2 and 3 so as to splice fibers together. In this case, as both ends of each of glass fibers 4 and 4' to be spliced together are set free within the splicing chamber 1, filaments opened by air flow from the nozzles 2 are rotated by another air flow from the nozzle 3, are inter-twined each other and are spliced.
