Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the titled stabilizer capable of imparting storage stability to a water slurry of a finely divided carbonaceous material, which comprises a salt of sulfate of a polysaccharide and a cellulose derivative which gels at a high temp.

CONSTITUTION: 90W10wt% salt of sulfate of a polysaccharide (e.g., calcium salt of an iota-carrageenan) is mixed with 10W90wt% cellulose derivative (e.g., methylcellulose) which gels at a high temp. to obtain a stabilizer. 0.01W2.0 aforesaid stabilizer is added to afinely divided carbonaceous material-water slurry contg. 50W75wt% finely divided carbonaceous material having such a particle size distribution that 50wt% or more of the particles pass through a 200-mesh sieve and 0.05W3wt% surfactant (e.g., salt of naphthalenesulfonic acid).
