Abstract:
To provide a graft copolymer obtained by grafting acrylic acid and maleic acid (or anhydride) onto starch, a detergent builder composition containing the same and a method for producing this graft copolymer.
This new starch-grafted copolymer is highly water-soluble and biodegradable and has a strong chelating ability to a calcium ion and a magnesium ion, and has also a strong pH buffering ability. The composition contains no phosphate and no aluminosilicate and has an excellent anti-redeposition property, building ability, anti-filming property, dispersibility, threshold crystal- inhibiting property and enzymatic properties-improving characteristics.
