To provide a starting method of a brushless dynamo-electric machine that can obtain a large starting torque even when a rotor position detecting element is not used.
When starting, current is applied gradually, as initial excitation (steps S1, S2), only through any two of the stator windings for the first, second, and third phases while monitoring to ensure that the applied current does not exceed a prescribed value, thereby fixing the position of the magnet rotor. Next, as forced commutation (step S3), current is applied forcibly through the winding of each phase sequentially while gradually increasing the quantity of the current applied, thereby forcibly rotating the magnet rotor, when the value of the applied current reaches a prescribed monitored value, current is applied continuously at approximately the monitored value.
