To provide the stator of a rotating machine which has a simple structure and prevents the occurrence of surface corona discharge, by suppressing the swelling of a surface corona preventive layer.
In the stator coil of a rotating machine, which is equipped with a conductor 4 arranged at an iron slot 2 and an insulating layer made on this conductor 4, and in which this insulating layer comprises a main insulating layer 6 to ground made on the conductor 4 and a surface corona preventive layer provided on this main insulating layer 5 to ground, and these are impregnated integrally with thermosetting resin and are hardened at large, the surface corona preventive layer 6 is made by winding a composite tape made of mold releasing semiconductive material and reinforcing material around the periphery of the main insulating layer 5 to ground.
