Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a self-cross-linkable emulsion composition, having a long pot life and capable of forming a cross-linked structure when forming films even at ordinary temperature and providing good cross-linked films.
CONSTITUTION: The objective emulsion composition comprises two phases of (A) a phase composed of a copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having epoxy group in the molecule and (B) a radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer unreactive with the epoxy group and a phase composed of a copolymer of (C) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having carboxyl group reactive with the epoxy group in the molecule and (D) a radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The emulsion composition contains sulfonate ions and/or sulfate ions in an amount of 0.01-0.5mol based on 1mol epoxy group. The composition ratios are 5-70 pts.wt. total amount of the components (A) and (B) [0.1-40 pts.wt. component (A) thereof], 30-95 pts.wt. total amount of the components (C) and (D) [0.1-40 pts.wt. component (C) thereof] at 0.1-10 molar ratio of the components (A/C).
