To provide a steam iron which efficiently uses heat, sufficiently steams a clothing with jetted steam, and can efficiently finish crease stretching by drying by the heat of an ironing surface.
The steam iron comprises a base 2 having a vaporizing chamber a4 and a vaporizing chamber b5 which are heated by a heater 3 and generate steam, a water tank (not shown) for storing the water to be supplied to the vaporizing chamber a4 and the vaporizing chamber b5, and an opening/closing device (not shown) for selectively controlling the amount of water supply from the water tank to the vaporizing chamber a4 and the vaporizing chamber b5. The steam generation rate in one of the vaporizing chamber a4 and the vaporizing chamber b5 is smaller than that in the other. One vaporizing chamber (for instance the vaporizing chamber a4) can be used for generating steam, and the other vaporizing chamber (the vaporizing chamber b5) can be used for shaping and drying the clothing respectively so that the crease can be efficiently stretched.
