PURPOSE: To prepare green tea of high quality, by sensing the steaming degree of green tea leaves in the steaming step, and controlling the steam temperature, transfer speed, thickness of the green tea layer, etc. according to the difference from the target value.
CONSTITUTION: Leaves of green tea are introduced from an airtight feeding apparatus 1 into a pressure steaming chamber 15, and the thickness of the green tea laqer is controlled by a lever 28 rotated by a motor 31. The leaves are then steamed while transferred on a net conveyor 25 and then discharged from an airtight discharging apparatus 6. The steaming degree is judged by measuring the temperature of the leaves of the green tea by an infrared temperature sensor or measuring the moisture content in the leaves, and compared with data previously set according to the quality of the leaves of the green tea. The steam temperature, transfer speed, thickness of the green tea layer, amount of the charged leaves, etc. are controlled based on the compared results to give the aimed steamed leaves of the green tea having a constant quality.
