Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for a flat bar spring having a satisfactory descaling property, and excellent surface luster after coating, ensuring superior cold workability and satisfactory setting resistance.
SOLUTION: The steel for the flat bar spring contains 0.40-0.75% C, 0.35% or less Si, 0.6-1.2% Mn, 0.6-1.2% Cr, 0.01-0.10% Al, 0.01-0.4% Cu, 0.02-0.4% Ni, 0.015% or less N, and the balance Fe with impurities, where P in the impurities is 0.025% or less, and S is 0.009% or less, and satisfies that a value of τ=0.039{11.69C×(1+0.64Si)×(1+4.10Mn)×(1+2.33Cr)}+100S is 4.1-5.2, where the symbols of chemical elements express contents of the elements by mass%.
