Title:
STEEL FOR METAL MOLD WITH EXCELLENT MACHINABILITY AND POLISHABILITY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2004091840
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide steel for metal molds in which the occurrence of pinholes due to oxide formation is suppressed and high machinability and polishable properties are provided.

The steel for metal molds has a composition which contains, by mass, 0.005 to <0.1% C, ≤1.5% Si, ≤1.0% Mn, 3.0 to 8.0% Cr, ≤4.0% Ni, >0.1 to 1.5% Al, 0.003 to <0.05% S and >0.001 to 0.02% Mg and in which the content of inevitably existing N is controlled to ≤0.01%. It is preferable to control O content to ≤0.003%, or further, one or more kinds among ≤3.5% Cu, ≤1.0% Mo and ≤1.0% Co may be contained. Such steel for metal molds has a structure composed essentially of martensite and also has surface hardness exceeding 38 HRC.
