Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a molten steel having <0.1wt.% content of copper or tin by using iron scrap incorporating much copper or tin.

CONSTITUTION: The iron scrap 3 is charged into a converter 1 and heated at ≥1000°C, and at the time of melting about 10wt.% of the scrap, the obtd. molten material is discharged to the outside of the furnace and successively, the residual iron scrap is melted, and if necessary, the other scrap or molten iron from a blast furnace incorporating no copper and tin is further charged to execute steelmaking.
