Abstract:
To provide a steering device that can extensively detect contact or approach of the hand of a driver with or to a steering handle in order to improve traffic safety.SOLUTION: A steering device, which receives steering operation by a driver, is provided with: a steering handle 2 which comprises a toric rim part, a hub part provided at the center of the rim part when viewed from the driver, and left and right spoke parts connecting the hub part to the rim part; a core rod 6 supporting the rim part, the hub part and the left and right spoke parts; and a gripping detection device 4 that estimates the electrostatic capacity between the core rod 6 and the ground as electrical characteristics of the core rod 6 and detects contact or approach of the hand of the driver with or to the steering handle 2 on the basis of a result of the estimation. A connection part 631, to which a steering shaft is connected of a hub core rod 63 supporting the hub part of the core rod 6, is coated with a coating material with an insulation property.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
