To provide an electric steering gear of a small ship capable of offering a good maneuvering performance at all times according to the ship speed by changing the ratio of the steering amount as the rudder turning angle relative to the rotating angle in the steering wheel operation in response to the ship running speed without using a ship speed sensor.
The steering gear of the ship is equipped with a rudder turning device 15 to rotate a rudder 3 round a rotary shaft using an electric actuator, a steering wheel 7 operated by a ship operator, a steering wheel operating amount sensor 9 to sense the operating amount of the steering wheel 7, and a controller 12 to compute the rotating amount of the rudder turning device 15 in accordance with the sensed operating amount of the steering wheel and transmit an operation signal for the actuator on the basis of the calculated rotating amount, wherein the signal to represent the revolving speed of an engine to generate a propulsive force to the ship is received by the controller 12, which changes the ratio of the rudder turning amount to the rotating amount of the steering wheel in accordance with the revolving speed of the engine.
