The stereoscopic image photographing device includes a polarization composition part (109L, 109R, P101, 111, 112) for converting two incident lights of a parallax image from one and the same subject into two polarizations having different polarization directions to composite the two polarizations, a camera optical system (L2 to L8) for image-forming the two polarizations composited by the polarization composition part (109L, 109R, P101, 111, 112) through a plurality of lenses, and a polarization separation part (P102) for separating the two polarizations transmitting the camera optical system (L2 to L8) so as to image-form the two polarizations on different image surfaces. The total sum of average double refraction quantities of plastic lenses (L4, L7, L8) among the camera optical system (L2 to L8) is ≤30 nm or less.
