To provide new polyester knit or woven fabric maintaining the performance of knit or woven fabric comprising 100% polyester fibers and exhibiting an excellent stone-washed fabric-like appearance, and to provide a method for efficiently producing the stone-washed fabric-like knit or woven fabric.

This stone-washed fabric-like knit or woven fabric comprises knit or woven fabric comprising cation-dyeable polyester staple fibers and non-cation dyeable polyester staple fibers, wherein at least a part of the constituting staple fibers dyed with a cationic dye is fallen by a physical treatment. This method for producing the stone-washed fabric-like knit or woven fabric comprises thermally treating the knit or woven fabric comprising the cation- dyeable polyester staple fibers and the non-cation-dyeable polyester staple fibers in an acid-containing treating solution, dyeing the treated fabric with the cationic dye and subsequently subjecting the dyed fabric to a physical treatment to fall at least a part of the constituting staple fibers.
