To exhibit the stopper function during a large earthquake by setting a pressing force in an inoperable mode in a vibration stroke range allowable to a vibrating body in a overlapped part of a sliding member, and giving a pressing force of the magnitude to suppress the vibration in a limiting part of the vibration stroke.
An overlapped part G of both sliding members A, B is in a condition where a pressing force is inoperable so as to generate little friction force in a range a-a of the vibration stroke allowable for a vibrating body. The pressing force of the magnitude to stop the vibration of the vibrating body 1 is given only in a limiting part 1-b of the vibration stroke. During an earthquake in which the vibrating body is vibrated in a range of the allowable stroke, the vibration control effect of a vibration control structure, or the base isolation effect of a base isolation structure is not impeded, while during a large earthquake in which the vibrating body can be in an excessive vibration stroke, an effective stopper function is exhibited and moreover can be carried out in an economical manner.
