To provide a stopping type exciting system that prevents a shaft vibrating phenomenon of a generator that occurs in the stopping type exciting system having a high gain and an overcurrent phenomenon that occurs in a system having unilateral current conducting capability, or defects of exciting systems utilizing a conventional thyristor type exciting system, gate turn off Thyristor (GTO), or insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT).
Unlike the conventional system, this exciting system has a facility that removes an overvoltage that is impressed to the exciting system at low excitation and prevents the step-out of the generator by having a step-up chopper that prevents a change at the output end of the generator from being transmitted to the exciting system and maintains a constant excitation DC voltage, and a DC chopper capable of four-phased operation.
