The storage device with the biometrics authentication function is detachable on a PC, and comprises a storage means, a biometrics authentication means for performing biometrics authentication, and outputting an authentication result to a first control means, the first control means for controlling the storage means, which stores device specifying information and availability information which is set to be inaccessible previously, and changes the availability information to be accessible by inputting authentication success, and a second control means for controlling the biometrics authentication means for storing the device specifying information. Mass storage and HIDs are stored as respective device specifying information in the first and second control means. When the storage device is connected to the PC, the PC recognizes the storage means as the mass storage and the biometrics authentication means as the HID. The PC transmits an authentication request to the second control means, and biometrics authentication process is executed by the biometrics authentication means. In cases of successful authentication, the biometrics authentication means outputs authentication success to the first control means. The first control means changes the availability information to be accessible, and access to the storage means by the PC is allowed.
