Abstract:
To make a pearl culture efficient and to improve a pearl culture by greatly increasing information of gene associated with formation of seashell and pearl.
Identification of gene associated with formation of pearl and seashell is efficiently carried out by two approaches of exhaustive analysis (EST analysis) of the cDNA of pearl oyster mantle and protein identification by TOF-MF. Then, a plurality of shematrin genes, which is considered to specifically express in a mantle and to work for imparting a structural strength in formation of seashell and pearl, are identified.
